55-200mm f4-5.6G AFS DX review at PhotoRadar
"Compared to some of the more extreme telephotos on the market, this lens’s specs do look fairly tame. It’s a bit plasticky, and it would be easy to write it off as a budget zoom for amateurs. But its compact size, low weight and smooth operation are rather appealing and if you want a ‘just-in-case’ telephoto for your gadget bag, this is perfect." |

70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR review at SLRGear
"For Nikon shooters, the 70-200mm lens has been the de facto pro lens, and until the version 2 of the lens came along, it was the optical king of the hill. There was always the lingering question of corner performance, and while in our review lens there are some soft corners, it's not the worst we've seen." |

Is the 70-200VR2 Worth Upgrading To? by Moose Peterson
"This question comes up a whole lot of late and wanted to once and for all get my answer out there in big, bold type. YES! I personally find the new version to be a tad sharper and have a little sharper contrast which leads to better color than the original 70-200VR."

70-200mm f2.8G VR-II reviewby Greg Reinacker
"Incredibly sharp optics, dramatically better VR, much reduced light falloff, and excellent contrast even in severe lighting conditions. It’s unquestionably the best zoom lens in this range I’ve ever used." |
70-200mm f2.8G ED VR II review at ePhotozine
"Being one of Nikon's top lenses, anything short of excellent would be disappointing. Luckily, this lens does not disappoint in terms of build, image quality or any other aspect of its performance." |
70-200mm f/2.G AFS VR II first impressions by Jason Odell (NikonLinks sponsor)
"The Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G AFS VRII is a vastly better lens than its predecessor in nearly every category. It is sharp wide-open, has better AF and VR performance, and handles TCs with ease." |
70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR II review at SLRGear
"There's little doubt that the lens represents some of the best optical engineering to date, and that the purchase of the lens represents an investment that's not likely to lose its value." |
70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR II review by Peter K. Burian for Photocrati
"Anyone who still doubts that a zoom can match an excellent single-focal length lens should become a convert after trying this one. In terms of sharpness, resolution of intricate details, snappy contrast, freedom from flare and from color fringing, it is definitely an outstanding performer." |
70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR II review by Thom Hogan
"From a true performance standpoint, the gains from the new version are not dramatic when used on DX...FX users have sort of the opposite initial take: if corner sharpness and brightness is at all important to you, the new lens is much, much better than the old one." |
70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR II review at DPReview
"Overall, though, it's impossible to conclude anything other than that the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm F2.8 G VR II is the most accomplished lens of its type that we've tested so far, and a perfect companion to Nikon's top-end bodies such as the D3S and D3X. DX shooters may not have so much reason to upgrade from the previous model, but for FX users the improvements are clear." |
70-200mm f2.8G AFS VR II review at PopPhoto
"Nikon has replaced one of its optical crown jewels with a superstar. Its improvements are largely tweaks, but taken together—the sharper performance at the wide end, and the greater consistency at the long—they make for an impressive update." |
70-200mm f2.8G AFS VR II review at PhotoZone
"The Nikon AF-S 70-200 VR II is a very good zoom lens that delivers excellent sharpness wide open already, at least in the image center. Vignetting is very well controlled and CAs as well as distortion are typical for a lens in this class. LoCAs are rather low and the bokeh is exceptionally smooth for a zoom lens." |
70-200mm f2.8G AF-S VR II review by Terry White
"I'm not really sure how Nikon justified the significant bump in price of the new lens. I'm glad that I got in while the getting was good on the original one. With that said, I LOVE this lens and if something happened to it, I'd have to replace it with a new one. No question about that." |
70-200mm f2.8G AFS VR II review at UsedNikon
"The 70-200 VR II is a bit perplexing. It's IQ is really beyond most expectations. My copy shows sharpness that exceeds a stopped down 85 1.8 and my macro primes as well. But a good deal of people will be troubled by the loss of apparent FL at closer range." |

"If you are in the market for a more powerful zoom to complement your Nikon digital or film SLR, the Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor lens is designed for telephoto shooting opportunities, such as sports, action, wildlife, travel and portrait photography." |
70-300mm f4.5-5.6 AFS VR review at PhotoRadar
"Inevitably, you have to balance quality against cost when choosing lenses. Nikon’s 70-300mm isn’t perfect optically, but it’s above average and it’s good to use. Perhaps most importantly, it fits both DX and FX Nikon bodies, so your investment will have plenty of time to pay off whichever bodies you choose in future." |
70-300mm f4.5-5.6G AFS VR review by Dante Stella
"People might complain about the plastic barrel. No problem, I say. If it makes it possible to make the lens smaller and lighter, it's great. This lens should not come apart under normal use. Bottom line: Is it worth its $529 street price? Hell yes!" |

"Nikon appear to be in the middle of revamping their line of professional quality lenses at present, and I would imagine this focal range will be high on their list.
In my opinion, this lens could sorely do with an update, optically, as well as with the design in order for it to fully justify the £1100+ price tag." |

"Note that despite my misgivings about very long distance use and teleconverters, I still use this lens a lot. It's what's known as a "trade-off lens." You're trading off some things (long distance, TC use, slower aperture) for other things (smaller, lighter, useful zoom ratio). It's surprising the things that aren't sacrificed in the tradeoff (image quality for the most part, focus speed and reliability)." |

Starting to Draw some Conclusions – Nikon 200-400VRII - Moose Peterson
"My dilemma is still showing you via the web any differences I might be seeing. And I am seeing a difference, the new 200-400VRII does produce cleaner images (cleaner=sharper/contrastier) which is a slight improvement on an already great lens."
- More from the 200-400VRII - Moose Peterson
"The new 200-400VRII seems to be a tad better balanced handheld which I do like...The lens continues to impress me and support my own personal conclusion that it does produce a cleaner image."
- Nikon 200-400VRII w/TC-20eIII - Moose Peterson
"First and foremost, shooting the 200-400VRII with the TC-20eIII (no, didn’t test and not going to test with 1.7x) produces gorgeous quality, easily producing a 24×30 print which is my standard. With this said, I would personally never use that combo. The 200-400VRII lives to be shot on its own!"

200-400mm f4G AFS VR II review at ePhotozine
"It comes as no surprise to me that this lens is a superb performer, as was its predecessor. It is capable of producing images with superb resolution and contrast and built to cope with the daily rigours of professional working life." |
200-400mm f4G AFS VR II review at PDNGearGuide
"Nikon further adds to its arsenal of full-frame (aka FX) glass with the Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, a wonderful new lens for sports and nature photographers that adds several small but significant upgrades including VR II image stabilization technology and Nano Crystal Coat to reduce ghosting and flare in backlit subjects." |
