Nikon focusing modes - Nikon D300/D700/D3 by Neil van Niekerk
"The current line-up of top Nikon D-SLRs offer a range of AF settings. The combinations in settings seem daunting at first. But with other settings on my D3 bodies, I keep it fairly simple. Instead of flip-flopping between numerous settings, I keep it simple by generally using the AF settings in just two ways. This depends on what whether my subject is static or moving …" |
Drag Racer Smashes Nikon D700 and 400mm F/2.8 Lens - PopPhoto
"The latest horror story comes from racetrack photographer, Mark J. Rebilas. He set up a remote Nikon D700 with a beautiful (and incredibly expensive) 400mm f/2.8 lens to capture drag strip action from afar. One of the cars got loose during its run and ended up catching the helpless camera in its parachute." |

How I Broke My D700 By Tethering by Terry White
"I tried different cables and again nothing would work until I realized that the cable attaching to the camera seemed slightly more loose than usual. Nothing crazy, but noticeable. I applied a little more finger pressure to the cable end pressing leaning it one way and Lightroom saw the camera. I tried holding it this way as best I could, but the slightest movement would cause a disconnect again."
- How I Broke My D700 By Tethering. Again! by Terry White
"It feels like déjà vu! It was a few days before Photoshop World Vegas and I was in the middle of shoot and all of a sudden I noticed the last couple of images didn't come up on the screen in Lightroom. I looked down at the camera and to my dismay I saw my USB tethering cable was at a 45° angle on the side of the camera. I thought, "that can't be good!"

D700 long term test at ePhotozine
"Time and time again this camera has exceeded my expectations, and proven to be a reliable workhorse. I'll keep my eyes peeled with great interest to see if this camera's successor offer's much more for me, but unless it is much better at the higher ISO settings, I can't see me needing any more than what I have." |
D700 review at UsedNikon
"I prefer the D700 over the D3, mainly because the D3's size will (and does) get in the way for too many shooting situations." |
D700 review at Pixiq
"Last but not least, image quality wise the D700 is heads and shoulders above any other Nikon I have owned to date. It isn’t the D3x, which has better resolution and slightly better color fidelity, but the overall image quality is solid in every respect." |
D700 review at PhotographyTalk
"Any other flaws of the Nikon D700 are truly minor, or a trade-off. For instance, the 12-megapixel sensor is probably more than adequate for many photographers; however, some competitors, in the same price range, have almost twice as much resolution. Plus, one of them, the Canon 5D Mark II includes HD video. The average resolution of the D700 is offset by its spectacular speed and ISO range." |
D700 review by the Mansurovs
"We have had it ever since it was announced in 2008, and it has been our workhorse camera since then. It has over 220,000 thousand actuations, which is well above its 150,000 actuation warranty and it has not failed me once. I am planning to use it till it dies, even if a D700 replacement is announced this year." |
